Garrincha – Joy Of The People

I haven’t posted any new art up for a while, so I thought what better way to rectify that situation than with an illustration of a true legend of the game. I am of course talking about Garrincha aka ‘Joy Of The People’ or the ‘Angel With Bent Legs’. Call him what you will he left an indelible mark on world football.

I’d wanted to do a Garrincha illustration for quite a while but each time i’ve attempted it they never quite turned out how i wanted. Anyway, this is my fourth attempt at capturing the ‘Little Bird’ and I think i’m finally happy with the outcome.

I wanted to use the black and white of Botafogo as the starting point for this piece and just see where it grew from there really.
