I was delighted to be commissioned by BT Football this year to provide artwork for their Champions League coverage.
A group of 12 artists were hand picked to cover every UCL game from the Group Stages right through to the final. Individual match days were picked at random and given to the artists, the brief was left loose to encourage each artist to put their own spin on each particular game.
I was tasked with drawing match days 1, 3 and 5, which featured Manchester City, Celtic and Spurs. For the MCFC game I decided to draw a Pep ‘Heat Map’. For the Celtic game I took my inspiration from the famous Jock Stein quote. Whilst for Spurs I decided to give a heavy nod to F1 and the Monacos Grand Prix heritage. The fact Williams and McClaren livery matched Spurs and Monaco was too good an opportunity to miss I thought.
Each artist must submit three pieces during the Group Stages, with the project becoming a knock out competition after that (via ‘likes’ on social media). You can see all of my designs, together with the other artists involved via the links shown below:
