Many Boro fans, myself included, rate Rippers as one their all-time favourite players. If i had to sum it up, he was the first player i ever saw that got me on my toes before the ball had even crossed the half way line.
If i was a full back i would have hated coming to Ayresome Park, whenever the ball was switched to the wing a cry would go up from the Holgate End… “Skin ‘im Rippers!” and 9 times out of 10 that’s exactly what would happen. A crowd pleaser in the true sense of the word.

Stuart Ripley has to be for me the best winger ive seen at Boro. He played in my era and i always remember the countless times he would skin the opponent and would head straight to byline. He could also score goals and did frequently, i would say the best ive seen him score was v Southend at Ayresome Park in the old First Division, were he beat 3 players before cutting inside and unleashing a 20 yard shot into the roof of the net, that is what he was capable of. He was always reliabe and was always a relief when his name was on the teamsheet, great memories.
